31/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 29 May, Arianespace announced the successful launch of 36 new satellites in the Indo-British OneWeb constellation. With this seventh launch for OneWeb, Arianespace has deployed 218 satellites in low earth orbit for the constellation. Arianespace will carry out 12 more launches with a Soyuz launcher in 2021 and 2022. These launches will enable OneWeb to complete the deployment of its global constellation of low earth orbit satellites by the end of 2022. Recently, responding to EUROPE, Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, expressed concern about Eutelsat’s participation in the OneWeb consortium at a time when the French operator is taking part in a European Commission study on the European secure constellation project (see EUROPE 12727/11). The Commissioner has launched an investigation into this involvement to determine whether there is a conflict of interest. (PH)
