EU taxonomy, NGOs back on ‘Sustainable Finance Platform’

31/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The NGOs ECOS, WWF, Transport & Environment, BirdLife and BEUC announced on Monday 31 May that they will rejoin the ‘Sustainable Finance Platform’, after receiving a letter from the European Commission committing to greater transparency in the adoption of future delegated acts on the EU taxonomy. These organisations had suspended their participation in the platform just over a month ago (see EUROPE 12704/15), following the presentation of the first delegated act proposed by the Commission. In particular, the NGOs were critical of the criteria relating to bioenergy and forestry in the delegated act,(see EUROPE 12703/2, 12701/16), criticising the Commission for not taking into account the recommendations of the ‘Sustainable Finance Platform’, a body which was however set up by the Commission to assist it in drafting delegated acts.
