31/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Fisheries Control Agency has given a mixed picture of compliance with the rules on landing obligation in the Baltic Sea in 2017 and 2018, according to a statement published on 28 May. A good level of compliance was found in herring and sprat fisheries using pelagic gear. However, the trend in other segments (demersal fisheries) in the Baltic Sea “remains worrying”, with a lower level of compliance for fixed and towed gear catching plaice, and towed gear targeting cod. The assessment was carried out by the Fisheries Control Agency, in cooperation with the Member States’ control expert group within the Baltic Sea Fisheries Forum (BALTFISH).
