20/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 19 May, the European Parliament almost unanimously supported (685 votes to 5, with 5 abstentions) the report by Younous Omarjee (The Left, France) on the proposal for an EU Council decision concerning the “dock dues” system in the French outermost regions (ORs) under Article 349 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU. This proposal aims to amend a 2014 decision (Decision N°940/2014/EU) and to extend an exemption scheme on imported goods for the French ORs after 31 December 2020. The proposal now establishes an exemption regime beyond 30 June 2021, with a new derogation regime provided for from 1 January 2022 until 31 December 2027. (PH)
