20/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 20 May, MEPs adopted the regulation establishing the European Cybersecurity Industrial, Technology and Research Competence Centre (see EUROPE 12702/39). With this centre, which will be set up in Bucharest, the EU intends to strengthen the security of the Internet and other critical networks and systems by pooling investment in research, technology, and industrial development. The centre—which will manage a related network of national coordination centres—will complement the actions of the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA), based in Greece. It will also become the main body that will manage EU financial resources dedicated to cybersecurity research under the Digital Europe and Horizon Europe programmes for the 2021–2027 period. (TM)
