31/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 31 March that it had withdrawn its 2019 decision that made commitments offered by film studios Disney, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros and broadcaster Sky UK binding. These commitments addressed the Commission’s concerns about clauses in contracts with Sky UK for the licensing of films as pay-TV content (see EUROPE 12209/17). These clauses prohibited Sky UK from allowing EU consumers outside the UK and Ireland to subscribe to Sky UK’s pay-TV services in order to access films via satellite or online. The withdrawal of the 2019 decision follows the annulment of the Commission’s 2016 decision in the same investigation (binding commitments for Paramount Pictures).
