31/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The NGO network CAN Europe launched a campaign on Tuesday 30 March to examine how 13 EU Member States and regions intend to use the EU funds available through the Structural Funds, the ‘Just Transition Fund’ and the Post-Covid-19 Recovery Fund. Based on an analysis of the draft national plans and leaked documents, CAN Europe believes that at this stage, the Member States’ plans contain measures that are more akin to greenwashing measures, insufficiently ambitious, or even favourable to the fossil industries, than measures towards a real ecological transition. In particular, the organisation points to French and Spanish investment plans for financing “not-so-green hydrogen”, Polish and Bulgarian investments in polluting waste incineration, and Romanian and Bulgarian investment plans for gas distribution.
