The Committee of the Regions and the ‘Under2 Coalition’, a coalition of regional governments committed to the fight against global warming, signed a joint action plan for 2021-2022 on Monday 29 March to strengthen this fight.
The CoR and the Under2 Coalition have thereby committed themselves to work on the basis of three common objectives: – strengthen their cooperation to implement the Paris Agreement and assist each other in achieving the common goals; – promote transparency at regional government level with annual reporting of climate data and progress towards the achievement of these targets; – encourage the participation of regional governments in priority activities in the implementation of the Green Deal.
The action plan sets out specific areas of cooperation, such as ensuring a just transition and increasing climate transparency. The new partnership foresees joint actions at various international events, such as the next European Week of Regions and Cities (11-14 October 2021) and the UN COP26 climate summit in Glasgow (1-12 November 2021).
