EU lends a hand to Equatorial Guinea after explosions at a military base

11/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU is lending a helping hand to Equatorial Guinea after a series of deadly explosions at a military base in Bata on 7 March, the European Commission said on Thursday 11 March. Spain and France have responded to the request for assistance made by the Equatorial Guinea authorities to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This includes a Spanish medical team specialising in trauma and surgery, medical equipment and medicines, as well as a French medical post capable of treating 250 severely injured people, emergency medical equipment and kits, personal protective equipment and tents equipped with kitchen kits. The Commission’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) coordinates the assistance and the EU co-finances up to 75% of the transport costs. (AN)
