11/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – In response to Slovakia’s request to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism for assistance with medical personnel to treat Covid-19 patients, several Member States have responded, the European Commission said on Thursday 11 March. Denmark offered to send three doctors and five nurses, and Belgium has offered one doctor, two nurses and a team leader. The Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), the central body of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, hosted by the Commission and active 24 hours a day, ensures that requests for assistance are matched with offers. It can assist any country, inside or outside the EU, at the request of national authorities or a UN agency. (AN)
