Brussels, 11/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 10 March, the European Commission launched a public consultation on how to improve taxpayers’ rights and simplify tax obligations. The responses received will contribute to a Recommendation to Member States and a Communication—both expected in the third quarter of 2021—that together will form “the Charter of taxpayers’ rights” that the European Commission announced in its July action plan (see EUROPE 12528/2). The European Commission explains that the aim is to list existing rights based on case law and practice and to make taxpayers and tax administrations aware of these rights and obligations. The institution points out that the recommendation could also help Member States improve their tax administration and practices so as to not only better respect taxpayers’ rights but also to improve tax collection.
