03/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The ‘Renewable Hydrogen Coalition’, launched last November by WindEurope and SolarPower Europe, published, on Wednesday 3 March, a charter setting out the “policy foundations” it considers essential to enable the scaling-up of renewable hydrogen produced by electrolysers powered by electricity from renewables. In particular, the document calls for prioritising and accelerating renewable-based electrification, for identifying priority sectors that will form the bulk of the EU’s future demand for renewable hydrogen, and for the massive deployment of additional renewable generation capacity across Europe. Welcoming the initiative, the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, said in particular: “We need to boost all links in the European hydrogen value chain and this is exactly what the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition has set out to do with the charter published today”.
