On Thursday 18 March, the European Environment Ministers will hold a public debate by videoconference on the role of national plans for recovery and resilience in the ecological transition, in preparation for the budgetary year of the ‘European Semester’.
The ambassadors of the EU27 to the EU (Coreper) gave the go-ahead for the debate on Wednesday 3 March.
“The idea is to coordinate the European Semester with the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the green transition”, a source told EUROPE.
Guided by a questionnaire from the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the EU, the exchange of views will focus in particular on: - opportunities to reinforce stimulus packages with other measures to ensure that they are sufficient for a green transition; - the basic principles of the transition, in particular those which are priorities for the ‘European Semester’; - the efforts that could be made to make the ‘European Semester’ structurally ‘greener’.
