01/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) expressed its concern, in a press release issued on Monday 1 March, about the exemption from prior notification for the construction sector (see EUROPE 12655/25) envisaged in the interinstitutional negotiating box for the regulation on the coordination of social security systems. For the organisation, such an exemption would open Pandora’s box in terms of fraud, particularly with regard to the posting of workers. It would circumvent the guarantee that was introduced in the Posting of Workers Directive providing for an exemption from the 8-day time limit for the construction sector, according to the FIEC. The European Parliament and the EU Council met again on Monday 1 March in the late afternoon to resume negotiations (see EUROPE 12665/16). The outcome of the negotiations was not yet known when this article was written. (PH)
