01/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU will mobilise €95 million in emergency aid to address the most pressing humanitarian needs in Yemen, against a backdrop of record child malnutrition, imminent threat of famine and renewed fighting. The Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, announced this at the donor conference organised on 1 March by the United Nations, Sweden and Switzerland. This will provide food and nutritional aid, health care, access to water and sanitation and education to people who have fled the conflict. “Parties to the conflict need to facilitate the access of humanitarian organisations to those most in need”, said the Commissioner. Since the beginning of the conflict in 2015, the EU has mobilised €981 million in response to this crisis, including €648 million in humanitarian aid. (AN)
