01/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – The EU reacted strongly on 26 February to the publication of Amnesty International’s report on the atrocities committed in Axum, Tigray, in November 2020. The report concludes that indiscriminate bombings and mass executions can constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity. “We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, all crimes against civilians and call for the perpetrators to be swiftly brought to justice”, said the Hight Representative for Foreign Affaires, Josep Borrell, and the Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič. They added: “The level of suffering endured by civilians, including children, is appalling. This must cease immediately. Full access is essential to assess the situation on the ground and provide adequate protection and assistance to those who desperately need it”. (AN)
