Venice Commission adopts eight principles to safeguard use of digital technologies in elections

The Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, which met for its last plenary session of the year on 11 and 12 December, believes that the change to using digital technologies in elections offers advantages such as lower campaign costs and easier access to information on candidates, but also brings with it democratic challenges, such as an increased risk of disinformation or obstacles to understanding the voting process.
