Future Acts on services and markets will take form of Regulations

01/12/2020 (Agence Europe)The future Digital Services Act (DSA) and Digital Markets Act (DMA), which will be presented on Wednesday 9 December, will take the form of Regulations rather than Directives (see EUROPE 12603/10). This was stated at the end of November by the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, in an interview with the French press. As a reminder, the European Commission intends to present two separate texts. The ‘DSA’ Regulation, which is more related to content on the Internet, will impose new obligations and responsibilities on online intermediaries in terms of content moderation, advertising and algorithms. The ‘DMA’ Regulation, which focuses on market behaviour, will target systemic platforms by providing ex-ante rules (see EUROPE 12576/13, 12572/15). (SPj)
