01/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – Opened in 2009, the “Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents” (Tromsø Convention) entered into force on Tuesday 1 December following its ratification by a tenth member state – Ukraine – last August (https://bit.ly/33vB8Ic ). This text is important for access to information in times of crisis and for the right to freedom of information as well as in the fight against corruption, underlines the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Dunja Mijatović, in a “Comment” on this topic (https://bit.ly/3fSZ3Gq ) published today. As part of the essential scope, environmental protection is also covered by the “Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters” (Aarhus Convention, ratified by 41 COE member states and the European Union).
