30/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Court of Human Rights announces today that it is following up on the application lodged last September against 33 Council of Europe Member States by six Portuguese youths (https://bit.ly/39sY9z9 - in French). Aged between 12 and 21, they denounce the failure to meet the commitments made in the Paris Climate Accord of 2015, stress that global warming will particularly affect their generation and must be addressed at the international level, insist on the environmental urgency and argue that their young age and the limited resources of their families allow them to apply directly to the Court without having exhausted national appeals. The Court formally requested the Member States concerned to answer a series of questions prior to the examination of this application. (VL)
