30/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – Hungarian EPP MEP József Szájer handed his resignation – effective from 31 December – to European Parliament President David Sassoli on Saturday 28 November. With this decision taken after a long reflection, this “resignation has nothing to do with the current, animated policy debate taking place on the European level”, Mr Szájer said in a message to his peers, without explicitly mentioning the blocking of the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework by Hungary and Poland (see EUROPE 12611/14). “I agree with the government’s position and fully support it”, he says, mentioning that entering the political arena requires sufficient strength. Mr Szájer has been elected to the Hungarian and European Parliaments four times. (MB)
