The European Commission presented on Friday 30 October a delegated act on detailed rules for the production of organic products in relation to the collection, packaging, transport and storage of non-organic feed products and fodder plant seed mixtures that can be used in organic production (in accordance with Regulation 2018/848 on organic farming).
Producers must be fully informed of the composition of these products in order to comply with organic production rules, the Commission explains.
This delegated act is subject to consultation of the Council of the EU and the European Parliament.
Feeding livestock and aquatic animals with organic feed is one of the principles of organic production. However, the production rules allow, under certain conditions, the use of certain non-organic and in-conversion feed products.
Operators must know whether such feed products are authorised in organic production, what their exact composition is and what proportion of organic, in-conversion and non-organic components they contain.
The EU Council and Parliament decided to postpone the implementation of the Organic Regulation (see EUROPE 12584/25) for one year.
