The S&D group got ‘up and running’ regarding the Pact on Migration and Asylum, an internal source said on Friday 30 October.
The Spanish Juan Fernando López Aguilár will be in charge of the Regulation on the ‘Crisis and Force Majeure’ instrument, which organises the mandatory terms of solidarity in such cases.
The German, Birgit Sippel, will be responsible for the Regulation on preliminary checks, which imposes health, identity and security checks on anyone arriving in a member country before redirecting them to the (accelerated) border procedure or the normal asylum procedure.
Italy’s Petro Bartolo has been appointed shadow rapporteur on the Regulation on asylum management and migration, for which the EPP will have the main responsibility.
Furthermore, on the own-initiative report on new legal migration routes, the group has found a replacement for the Maltese MEP, Miriam Dalli, in the person of Sylvie Guillaume (France).
The EPP, for its part, has not yet taken its decisions internally; the group will be in charge of the Regulation, which revises, notably, the Dublin criteria and organises mandatory solidarity in times of migratory pressure, but its attribution depends, among others, on Roberta Metsola (Malta), who will be elected to the vice-presidency of the European Parliament.
As a reminder, Renew Europe and Fabienne Keller (France) have inherited the Regulation on asylum procedures and the ECR, together with the Spaniard Jorge Buxadé Villalba, the Eurodac Regulation. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
