19/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EU Council of Ministers adopted without debate on Monday 19 October the text on the postponement by one year (to 1 January 2022) of the entry into force of the new regulation on organic farming (see EUROPE 12578/9, EUROPE 12553/11). Because of the health crisis, “operators are therefore concentrating their efforts on maintaining organic production and trade flows and do not have the capacity to prepare for the entry into force of the new regulatory framework at the same time. It is therefore highly likely that Member States and operators will not be in a position to ensure the correct implementation and application of the Regulation from 1 January 2021, as originally envisaged”, states the new Regulation, which has already been approved by the European Parliament.
