Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) MEPs elected Anna Cavazzini (Greens/EFA, Germany) by acclamation on Monday 26 October.
Mrs Cavazzini is serving her first term in the European Parliament (see EUROPE 12581/30), succeeding Petra de Sutter (Greens/EFA, Belgium), who became a federal minister in the Belgian government (see EUROPE 12572/37).
Mrs Cavazzini said her priority was to defend above all the integrity of the single market in the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the German stressed the defence of environmental and safety standards for European products, as well as the importance of supporting the dual green and digital transition.
Former European Commissioner Andrus Ansip (Renew Europe, Estonia) was elected first Vice-Chair of the IMCO Committee, a position previously held until the beginning of the year by Pierre Karleskind (Renew Europe, France). Since Brexit, the latter currently chairs the Committee on Fisheries (PECH) (see EUROPE 12415/4). (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
