26/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a joint statement sent to the EU’s chief negotiator, Michel Barnier, on Monday 26 October, EU coastal communities, coastal regions and fishermen called on the European Commission, EU Council and Parliament to continue to give strong support to fishermen in the fisheries negotiations with the UK (see other news). Meeting at the initiative of the President of the Regional Government of Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the 70 signatories from seven EU countries recalled that fishing is more than an economic activity. “It is at the heart of the social, cultural, emotional and economic fabric of hundreds of ports, communities and value chains across the European Union”, reads a statement by the European Fisheries Alliance (EUFA). The signatories ask to work towards a Brexit agreement that does justice to European fishermen. (LC)
