26/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – The first European Gender Equality Week, organised at the initiative of the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), opened on Monday 26 October in the European Parliament. Up until 29 October, there will be debates, presentations, exchanges of views and hearings on subjects related to gender equality, organised by the FEMM Committee, and by the Committees on Civil Liberties (LIBE), Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) and Transport (TRAN), the Sub-Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) and the Special Committees on Beating Cancer (BECA) and Artificial Intelligence (AIDA). This event also marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, signed under the aegis of the UN in 1995 to tackle violence against women.
