07/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 7 September, the European Commission adopted a proposal asking the Council of the EU to authorise the United Kingdom to sign and ratify five international fisheries conventions during the transition period. The regional organisations involved are the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC), the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO), the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT), the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) and the North Atlantic Salmon Conservation Organization (NASCO). In addition, in order not to prejudice the ongoing fisheries negotiations under the future EU-United Kingdom partnership agreement, the UK must consult with the EU before discussing these quotas. (LC)
