07/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 7 September, French MEP Stéphanie Yon-Courtin (Renew Europe, France) sent a letter to Irene Tinagli, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON), asking her to invite the CEOs of Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple to discuss their anti-competitive practices and taxation in an increasingly digital world, once the European Parliament reopens its doors to the public. In her letter, Yon-Courtin, who is also vice-chair of the ECON Committee, points out that the GAFA CEOs have never appeared before the European Parliament, which represents a significant proportion of their customers, despite the fact that they appeared before the US House of Representatives last month. She believes that a meeting of this kind could take the form of a joint hearing of the ECON Committee and the new FISC Sub-Committee (see EUROPE 12510/9).
