07/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – European hunters (FACE) are dissatisfied with the proposal to restrict the use of lead shot in wetlands under the REACH regulation – a proposal they say is “unacceptable” even though it is supported by Member States (see EUROPE 12552/9). In a press release issued on 4 September, FACE did not challenge the substance of the proposal, but questioned the process, deeming the proposal “unworkable”, if adopted. “Essential advice from EU agencies was ignored, trust in EU decision-making was damaged, and widespread legal problems will follow for Europe’s 7 million hunters”, said David Scallan, the organisation’s secretary general. He particularly criticised the definition of wetlands that include peatlands, and regretted that the warnings given by the ECHA Enforcement Forum had been ignored. (AN)
