05/08/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Cyclists’ Federation, Cycling Industries Europe, and the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry said on Tuesday 4 August that they had participated in the European Commission’s public consultation on the roadmap for its future strategy for an “intelligent and sustainable transport sector” (see EUROPE 12518/27). Believing that increasing the number of cyclists in Europe “is by far the most effective measure” for achieving the objectives of the European Green Deal, the three associations expressed their demands to the Commission. In particular, they call for cycling to be treated as an equal partner in the mobility system, for EU funding of €6 billion for safe cycling infrastructure, and for the implementation of a genuine European cycling strategy.
