05/08/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EU delegation in Libya announced on Tuesday 4 August that the EU has mobilised €20 million to assist Libya in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. In its press release, the delegation said: “The funds will contribute to improving national detection and surveillance mechanisms in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus, boost preventative measures and support Libya’s national health system”. The delegation stated that this support will particularly assist the most vulnerable communities affected by conflict, forced displacement and migration. The EU assistance, which will be provided in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), will be released immediately. It is expected to directly benefit almost a million people. (CG)
