ACEA believes that a collection target should not be added for batteries

05/08/2020 (Agence Europe)Setting collection targets for batteries would be an ineffective instrument to promote their recycling, according to ACEA, the organisation representing Europe’s major car manufacturers, in its recommendations on Directive 2006/66/EC on batteries and accumulators published on Wednesday 29 July. Any material recycling target only makes sense if it is technically and economically feasible from an environmental point of view, insists the organisation, which considers that the collection and recycling process is already “very efficient and effective” in many Member States. According to Eurostat, only half of batteries were recycled in 2018 (see EUROPE 12536/21). To view the recommendations: https://bit.ly/2DyiRQm (PH)
