EIB lends €150 million to Dutch water company Vitens

05/08/2020 (Agence Europe)The European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending €150 million to the Dutch water company Vitens to ensure the sustainability of the drinking water distribution network and to increase water reserves over the next ten years, according to an announcement from the EIB made on Wednesday 5 August, the day upon which the loan agreement was signed. The funding will be used to carry out parts of Vitens’ 2020–2024 investment programme, which covers the renewal and modernisation of water treatment plants, reservoirs and pumping stations, as well as distribution networks and water meters. Increased water reserves would also act as a buffer against extreme weather events. The investments are part of Vitens' strategy to adapt to population and economic growth and the adverse effects brought about by climate change. (AN)
