30/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday July 30, the European Commission approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of AXA’s activities in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia (the ‘Target’, consisting of legal entities based in Poland and the Czech Republic) by the Austrian-based company Uniqa Österreich Versicherungen AG (Uniqa). The Target is active in the provision of life and non-life insurance, pensions and investment products in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland. Uniqa is active in the insurance sector in Central and Eastern Europe. The European Commission concluded that the proposed merger would not give rise to competition concerns due to the limited presence of the companies concerned, the significant number of competitors, and/or the strict regulatory framework applicable to the companies’ activities.
