30/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has decided to extend the public consultation on its action plan aiming to strengthen the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing (see EUROPE 12482/8)—which was originally due to close on Wednesday, 29 July—until 26 August. Moreover, the Commission hopes that the results of this public consultation will enable it to take a decision regarding the establishment of a European supervisor. In fact, the Commission announced in its action plan that it will present a proposal to this end in the first quarter of 2021 but did not specify whether it intended to create a new EU agency dedicated to the fight against money laundering or whether it simply wished to expand the responsibilities of the European Banking Authority (EBA).
