15/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 15 July, the European Commission opened a public consultation on the ‘European Democracy Action Plan’ (see EUROPE 12416/3, 12429/4), which the Commission’s Vice-President responsible for Values and Transparency, Věra Jourová, undertook to present by the end of the year. The Action Plan should, according to the Commission, help to support the integrity of elections and political advertising, strengthen media freedom and pluralism, tackle disinformation in the EU and “will build on the lessons learned from the Covid-19 crisis”. Election authorities, political parties, media, journalists and online platforms are notably invited to contribute, the institution said, adding that the consultation would be open until 15 September.
