The European Commission decided on Wednesday 15 July to appoint Christian Danielsson as Head of the European Commission Representation in Sweden and Michael Scannell as Deputy Director-General in the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI).
Mr Danielsson, a Swedish national, is currently Director General for the Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (NEAR). Previously, he was Deputy Secretary-General in the Secretariat-General of the Commission. Mr Danielsson has also served as Sweden’s Permanent Representative to the EU.
Mr Scannell, an Irish national, has held the position of Director in DG Health and Food Safety and DG Agriculture and Rural Development. He is currently Director of Markets and Observatories at DG AGRI. His appointment will take effect on 16 July 2020.
The College of Commissioners also decided to appoint two Directors. Niall Bohan, an Irish national, will take up the post of Director in DG Budget, Directorate E, ‘Asset and Financial Risk Management’ on 16 July. Inge Bernaerts, of Belgian nationality, will become Director in DG Competition, Directorate A, ‘Policy and Strategy’, with an effective date to be determined.
