Coronavirus will drive down global oil demand, warns IEA

14/02/2020 (Agence Europe)The monthly oil market report published by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on Friday 14 February warns that the new ‘Covid-19’ coronavirus will have a “significant” impact on global oil demand. The IEA points out that there is already a major slowdown in oil consumption and the wider economy in China; it expects demand to fall by 435,000 barrels per day in the first quarter of 2020. This will be the first contraction of this kind since 2009, when the oil industry was feeling the effects of the financial crisis. According to the report, the growth in global demand for crude oil in 2020 will be 825,000 barrels per day, 365,000 barrels per day lower than the IEA's original forecast. This is the lowest growth forecast since 2011. To read the report, go to: http://bit.ly/39xi1Om (DG)
