11/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission published on Tuesday 11 February an implementation report on 112, the single emergency number across the European Union, which shows that more and more people are using it. This service grew twice as fast (+12%) as other emergency numbers (+6%). However, it remains little used in countries such as France (7%), Austria (18%) or Greece (21%). The Commission takes this opportunity to underline that "several Member States have improved their caller location systems" as provided for in the Universal Services Directive, soon to be replaced by the Communications Code, although the Commission had to open several infringement procedures in July 2019 (Croatia and Greece) (see EUROPE 12310/16).
