24/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced on Friday 24 January the appointment of João Vale de Almeida as the first Head of the future EU delegation to the United Kingdom. This diplomat of Portuguese origin will take up his post after Brexit, when the United Kingdom becomes a non-Member State, i.e. on 1 February 2020. This appointment has been duly notified to London. Mr Vale de Almeida, 62, has notably served as EU Ambassador to the United Nations from 2015 to 2019, as the first EU Ambassador to the United States from 2010 to 2014, and as chief of staff of Commission President José Manuel Barroso from 2004 to 2009.
