24/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – Some 21 companies in the energy sector have pledged to give priority to reducing methane emissions across the entire oil and gas industry, according to a press release issued on 22 January by Eurogas, an association representing European gas companies. Among the planned priority actions, companies have, for example, agreed to host and fund training courses for management staff and those directly responsible for measuring and reducing methane emissions. According to Eurogas, this training will fill a knowledge gap about this greenhouse gas. Mark Radka, Head of the Energy and Climate Branch of the United Nations Environment Programme, welcomed the news, saying “readily-available technologies and management practices can dramatically reduce methane emissions from oil and gas operations”.
