European Parliament political groups announce their candidates for 2019 Prize

Several political groups in the European Parliament announced on Wednesday 18 September the names of their candidates for the 2019 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.

The S&D group, like the GUE/NGL group, have decided to name three Brazilians “symbols of resistance against human rights violations in Brazil”, according to the GUE/NGL. These are Chief Raoni, an emblematic figure in the fight against deforestation in the Amazon, Claudelice Silva dos Santos, a defender of human rights...
