On Thursday 19 September, the European Parliament condemned the decision of the Turkish authorities to dismiss democratically elected mayors from office on the basis of questionable evidence, urging them to reinstate the mayors and other elected officials who won the local elections on 31 March 2019 to office, who were prevented from taking office, dismissed or replaced by unelected directors.
