EU denounces acts of vandalism against its delegation

EU Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giaufret and European External Action Service spokeswoman, Maja Kocijancic denounced the damage to the EU delegation to Israel on Sunday 15 September as “deplorable”.

This incident is deplorable and must be condemned. We will continue to do our job”, Giaufret said on Twitter. The EEAS spokesperson indicated that she expects quick results in the investigation.

Several European embassies in Tel Aviv, including the German embassy, have also denounced the damage. Israel's Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, said he was “appalled” and condemned “outrageous vandalism” against the delegation. “Israel is committed to maintaining the security of all diplomatic missions. The Israeli police are investigating this case and I hope that the perpetrators will be brought to justice quickly”, he added.

The delegation's entrance, which was empty at the time of the incident, was covered with anti-European and anti-German slogans such as “Get out EU” and “German money kills Jews”. Right-wing Israeli activist Sheffi Paz admitted to the attack. She had filmed herself committing these acts, shouting on camera that the EU should stop "subsidising terrorists, stop financing illegal immigration and get out of Israel".
