13/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September, the American and European authorities launched the third evaluation of the transatlantic data protection system, the Privacy Shield, in Washington. During these 2 days of meetings, the review covered all aspects of the functioning of the system, the Commission is assured, including its practical application and effectiveness. In a joint statement, the European Commissioner for Justice, Vera Jourová – who was not present on site – and the US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, in particular welcomed the appointment of several senior US officials, including Keith Krach as permanent ombudsperson. This was indeed the main thorny issue in the Commission's last evaluation (see EUROPE 12120/11). The Commission must now analyse the results of the review and will report on its assessment in a report to be published in the coming months. (MF)
