13/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – Euro area Finance Ministers agreed on Friday 13 September in Helsinki (see other news) to implement several measures to enhance transparency around the work of the Eurogroup. This decision follows the initiative launched by the former president of this informal body, the Dutchman Jeroen Dijsselbloem, in 2016 (see EUROPE 11488/15). “We need to strike a balance between sharing with the public what we discuss and decide upon and, at the same time, protecting candid and open discussions both at the Eurogroup and at our preparatory body, the EWG (European Working Group) within the Council”, said Mário Centeno, President of the Eurogroup, at a press conference. Thus, a directory with the Eurogroup's public documents should be set up, as well as a public calendar of EWG meetings. (LT)
