The European GNSS Agency (GSA) announced on Friday 13 September that it has signed a cooperation agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support investment in the European space services economy.
The stated objective is to combine their expertise and experience, one in the field of satellite navigation economics (the GSA is responsible for the Galileo and EGNOS programme), the other in the field of financial investment, in order to explore new investments to support the economy of the space sector or based on space data.
This is a priority for the European Commission, which wants to make up for the European Union's delay, particularly with regard to the United States, in order to create a European “New Space”, as the Commissioner for the Internal Market and Industry has told EUROPE, Elżbieta Bieńkowska (see EUROPE 12326/8).
The GSA should see its prerogatives increase with the adoption of the Space Programme Regulation for the next multiannual financial framework (see EUROPE 12203/11). (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
