More than 200 organisations and MEPs call for a non-discriminatory agreement on rail passenger rights

The European Disability Forum (EDF) intends to publish, on Monday 16 September, on the occasion of Mobility Week, a declaration signed by 9 MEPs and 207 organisations from national and European levels. Their request: that the negotiations between the European Parliament and the EU Council on rail passenger rights (see EUROPE 12307/1) take better account of people with disabilities.

For a disabled person, the current regulations provide for the need to give 48 hours’ notice to the railway company so that it can accommodate them as well as possible – a provision that makes it impossible to travel on short notice, explains EDF.

The signatories support the European Parliament's position, which provides for a notice period of 3 hours or less in stations with more than 2,000 passengers per day, 12 hours in smaller stations. This is “progress”, according to the EDF, which would “ideally” like there to be no notice required.
