22/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – In Addis Ababa, the European Commissioner for Development and International Cooperation, Neven Mimica, signed, on Monday 22 July, financing agreements for €36 million in direct budget support to help Ethiopia fight climate change. €33 million will support green growth and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from industry and forestry and €3 million will help strengthen emission monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems, in line with the requirements of the Paris Climate Agreement. The Commissioner met with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. A meeting was also planned with the President of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, on the financing of the African Peace Facility (see EUROPE 12240/27). (AN)
